So, how does one save power equivalent to 3,000 AAA batteries, or enough power to run a television for 3 weeks, or even enough electricity to power a lap top computer for an entire month, with one purchase? If this thought has crossed your mind before (or even if it hasn’t) you will get a right kick out of this company : Green Toys.
Green Toys uses high-density polyethylene (or HDPE). This material is considered one of the safest, cleanest plastics around. And for the everyday consumer, that is simply yesterday’s milk jug. And not only that, Green Toys is locally located. Now before one starts a tirade about the benefits of open trade, consider the distance that each shipment has to travel in order to make it to the shelves. The amount of green house gases produced is astronomical! If one can help cut back on green house gases in at least one purchase, you’re doing your part to help out!

All Green Toys are shipped strictly within the US, (however i am sure internationally they have their own versions of green toys as well). This cuts down on the amount of fuels burned in transportation, not to mention guarantees that your toys won’t be sea sick when they get to you! *tongue in cheek*
And for the ever safety conscious parent (as you should be) Green Toys has seen to it that every toy passes a plethora of tests, including :
- Consumer Products Safety Standard Specification, ASTM F963
- California Prop. 65 restrictions on lead & cadmium
- FDA regulations for food contact
- California regulations prohibiting phthalates in toys
- Voluntary testing for no BPA (Bisphenol-A)
These toys can be found at a number of locations nation wide:

“As much as 90 percent of marine trash is plastic, and the U.N. Environment Programme has estimated that every square mile of ocean contains 46,000 pieces of floating plastic. If you need proof, look at the ever-expanding Eastern Garbage Patch, an area in the northern Pacific Ocean twice the size of Texas that is so full of waste, scientists have stopped trying to shrink it; now, they’re just struggling to find ways to keep more trash from piling on.” (Emily Main, Fresh Finds)
Now if that doesn’t kill your beach high, maybe the visual of diving into a patch of garbage will. Or better yet, the irony that a majority of the plastics and garbage currently afloat are water bottles and jugs. We humans have such a capacity for Irony.
However, while the scientists have given up on saving our planet, an innovative little company called Brick and Mortar are finding new uses for our yesterday’s things. One such example that is sure to put you back into your beach buzz is this nifty little set – as featured by Miss Main on Green Guide.
This heavy duty little set comes complete with : a bucket, sand castle mold, shovel, and rake! So no matter the heavy duty needs of your child, or in my case overactive 20 year old imagination, this eco-groovy playset insures that you’re saving the world even when you’re vegging out! And even better. . it is even packaged in recycled goods. How Green can you be?!
